Rain Gutters
Gutters and downspouts are the vertical sections that
send runoff from rain to the ground. They are made of aluminum,
vinyl, galvanized steel, stainless steel or copper.
Aluminum gutters are the most common product used today. The gutter
holds more water than traditional wood gutters and is generally
recommended.
When purchasing aluminum gutters, insist on primary
aluminum, which is the thickest and most consistent kind. Avoid
secondary aluminum, a recycled product that is inconsistent in thickness.
When purchasing metal gutters, it's best to choose
the thickest you can afford such as .032 in. Less thick metal gutters
are available; .027-, .025- and .019-in. but don't hold up as well.
